Hi Ed,

After the recent farce in Animals & Nature, I wonder if it's possible to stop any new users from posting for 24 hours until after they join?

This will stop people who have been banned from immediately signing back up to continue posting nonsense.

Just an idea?

What happened on Animals & Nature? I'm curious.
Wont work squarebear, users who continually get banned have an army of names to use.

i completely understand why you are asking it but i cant see that it would help.

some imposters have been grey when first posting, because anyone intent on causing mischief will happily wait.

And what happens to those who register because they are in desperate need of an answer, is i fair to make them wait purely because of the few posters who try and cause bother?

Well in that case, perhaps we need an admin who is here more often to delete these questions and users rather than popping in once a day if that?

I am here a lot and would gladly volunteer.

Yes I work but the nature of my job means I am on the internet most of the day. I usually have Answerbank minimised on my toolbar.

I don't want to be an admin but will happily delete questions that spoil the site.

squarebear, I'll put your name forward at the next Mods Committee meeting, which is on 12th March I believe. It is very satisfying deleting questions, and I am sure you will have lots of fun. There is a 3-month probtionary period. Hope this helps.
i agree.
will you have the time (judging from today) to read all the banter that goes on here squarebear?
* probationary * (hope mispelling didn't spoil the helpfulness of my last answer)
Completely ruined it for me whiffey :(

Yes I'm an administrator on a message board for a large multinational music making software package and I am amazed by the lack of moderation on these boards.

No need to check every post Jane, when you click on report post, an admin or moderator will get an email showing the offending post. It's then up to their judgement what action to take.

I don't know if you were being genuine there whiffey but yes please put my name forward if so.
This site has to dance to the tune of the puppet master that pays for it - the advertsers.

As long as the site has the minimum number of hits to keep the advertisers happy the site owners don't give a hoot about content.

They will not do anything to make it difficult to post, or difficult to register.

Me too whiffey

Sorry, hold on I'm on that committee, have you ordered the sandwiches?
Whiffey, can i be the trolley dolly with the sarnies?

Fair enough then take the p!ss. I was only volunteering to try to stem the wave of rubbish that spoils an otherwise useful site. I see I'm on my own here.
