I have found a lovely recipe for Garlic and Chilli Prawn Tapas, but the recipe calls for Chiili Flakes. I have tried to buy them in Sainsbury's and in Waitrose, and have failed. I would be very grateful if anyone could advise me as to where I might be able to buy these chilli flakes. Many thanks.

You should be able to get them in the shops you mentioned. All it is really is crushed dried chillies.they should be on the spices section.I buy bigger packets from Asian food shops, maybe try them if nearby.good luck.

Thank you gasman. I've seen crushed or powdered chilli, but I thought when the recipes stated Flakes, it meant small shavings. I've bought a jar of crushed chilli, so as to have something to use, but the pieces do seem somewhat large.
I'm sure I've seen what you need in those little bottles which Schwarz make - usually in the spices section at any major supermarket. Btw - garlic & chilli prawn tapas sound....mmmmmmm.
Just checked the larder and I have a jar of chilli flakes and they look exactly like the jar of crushed chillies I also have!

I got the chilli flakes in Aldi and they are made by Stonemill, it says on the label ''specially packed for Aldi Stores', maybe check out www.aldi.com but I reckon the crushed chillies will do the job.

Thhank you warpig and Ice-Maiden. I was so convinced I'd seen a jart of Schwartz chilli flakes myself at some time...when I didn't need them naturally!!! But neither store had them yesterday. However, I shall go into Aldi and try there. Incidentally, the little pork or chicken tapas bites on sticks in Aldi are delicious. Pop them i the microwave for 1 minute, eat hot or cold. They're 89p each, but even better, 1.20 for two packs in Morrison!
Bluebell, I have tried their tapas and yes they are delicious, look out for the little sausages too (they are normally beside them), they are scrummy, nice and spicy but not too hot.

Oh and the chilli flakes from aldi have a grinder on them so they come out finer.

Underneath the chilli flakes from Aldi on my list, I've now put the little sausages, so will buy them as well later. This is a fabulous site for advise and hints, thank you again warpig. Much appreciated! Off to sell poppies now, thank goodness it's mild and dry!
I bought my chili flakes, dried in Tescos.
They're on the shelves with the herbs and spices.

Hi funnygirl. A friend tried in Tesco yesterday for me. I think we must live in the sticks here in Lincolnshire. Anything slightly unusual, and I have difficulty in finding it. Thank you for your help though. Cheers!
