When was the first Malteser produced? And who invented it? Last one: where does the name Maltesers come from?

1) The first settlers arrived on the island of Malta and Gozo around 5200 BC, so the first one was probably produced around then.

2) Mr and Mrs Borġ, probably.

3) Maltese = someone from Malta, coming from its original name Melita, Italian for "the place of refuge".
The name comes from the fact that they're made from malted milk (same taste as Horlicks).

Maltesers (and Quality Street) were first on sale in 1936. The 1930's was the time when most of todays most popular sweets were introduced.
