Why is it that, after I've cooked and eaten delicious poridge, I am absolutely famished soon afterwards. I make it with rolled oats, a banana, little sugar and milk, so it's very low in simple carbs.

I agree! Loads of folk eat as as a good start to the day, and I like it but it never seems to keep the hunger pangs at bay as well as toast or cereal. Why indeed?!
Sugar!!! Banana!!! oohh nooo!

It's cause you have ruined it you see.......porridge or porage should only have a little salt added and a taste of milk, and anything else is blasphemy.

PS you also need a spurtle to make it properly. :>)

Glad to know it's not just me, then. Porridge is the only thing I take a few gains of sugar with and the banana is to make it even healthier. AND I do use a spurtle!!! Had left over pasta today.
I have it for breakfast too but I have the quick version mix it with water and bang it in the microwave I'm usually starving in a couple of hours but it's nice to know that I've burnt it off so quickly . If I have one of those mega sausage egg bacon etc etc breakfasts I can go all day without eating .
That's very weird. I'm dieting and find that a bowl of porridge is the best start to the day as I don't get hungry for hours! Toast and cereal just don't fill me up in the same way. Maybe people react to the carbs in oats in different ways? I have mine made with skimmed milk. I add nothing at all, for the pure porridge experience!
p.s. what the hell is a spurtle?
