Now Reg was a self employed plumber who was on an emergency call-out to a remote farm house early one fine spring evening.
As he wended his way through country lanes, Reg had to pull over onto a grass verge when he suddenly got a blow-out. On inspection the near-side front tyre was as flat as a pan cake !
Reg noticed the sun was begining to set, so he had to change the wheel for the spare, fast !
He jacked up the van and removed the wheel and carefully put the 4 nuts in the hub cap and went to get the spare out of the back, unfortunately while carrying the spare he stepped on the hub cap and caterpulted the four nuts into a murkey ditch.
With no hope of getting the nuts back, Reg stood there cursing and scratching his head in disbeliefe.
Suddenly a strange voice that seemed to have come from behind him said- "Take 1 nut off each of the other 3 wheel's and use them on the spare" Reg turned to look round but all he could see was a grey horse looking over a hedge, the only other thing in sight was an old style gypsey caravan a few hundred yards away near a cross roads, although shaken by this wierd event, Reg took the advice and continued his journey.
This played on Reg's wind for days after, and he decided to revisit the site of the puncture about a week later.
He could'nt see the grey horse anywhere but the old caravan was still there, so Reg took a walk down to the cross roads, he climbed up the 3 steps and knocked on the door which was opened by an old gypsey woman with silver bangles in her hair. Reg told the strange story to the woman and she stared deep into his eyes and said- "Did you see a grey horse" Yes Reg muttered.
Thought so said the old lady, that chestnut mare dont know zip about cars !
