Does anyone know what the name of this sweet is called - it was chocolate toffee/fudge and looked like it had been through a mincer. You bought it in quarter ounce bags from your local sweetshop out of big jars....? Help!

Could it have been "sweet tobacco"?
When I first read the question I too was thinking about sweet tobacco which I'm sure was called "Gold something" (can't remember the second word) but this wasn't bought loose. But the more I think about it there was something more like you're describing... I think there were two types, one was like toffe blob shaped things coated in chocolate, and the other was similar but had a sugary covered coating but I just can't think what they were called. Hopefully this will help to kog other peoples' memories.
I've rememberd now... the baccy was called "Spanish Gold." I feel better now!
Great new website now for this kinda question:-
