My brother has asked me to make a birthday cake for my 3-yr-old nephew. I want to make a chocolate cake, but i don't know how to decorate it - i want it to look really fun and appealing to kids, but it has to be easy to make! Also, i don't really want to use that nasty fondant icing that you roll out.
I had one idea - to cover cake with chocolate fudge icing then decorate with sweets - but what kind of sweets?
all ideas welcome!

You could make it into the shape of a rabbits head.Round cake and two cake ears attached. Coconut sprinkled on makes good fur. Smarties for the eyes, nose and mouth. Red liquorice laces for the whiskers.
I used to make this years ago for my sons birthdays.
It's ever so easy to do ..and this is a similar recipe.

Daisyd, the sweets can look great, try covering the icing with jelly tots and smarties, these give lots of colour and are known by most 3 year olds-- yes, covering, no gaps please.
