I have had a small fig tree for the past two years and put outside in summer last year and took in this winter. It seems so slow in growing but has small buds coming on it now, or rather did have.!! My dear husband, bless him.! I also have a small rose plant on my window sill with the fig. Well on sunday I asked him to trim my rose for me and when I was closing the blind I caught site of my fig tree, or what is left of it.! He has cut it off until about two inches from the bottom. He thought it was the rose bush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Question is will it grow again.? Or should I get him to buy me a new one. many thanks.
i think you might need a new one unfortunately. Offer to cut his toe nails then show confusion between his little wiggly toes and other appendages that stick out, that'll teach him not to get confused in future
I've just finnished drying my eyes, after reading Janet's suggestion! a little drastic, to my mind ;-]
As a compromise, I think he should buy you a new fig, in case the other one dont re-sprout and you in return should buy him a book on house plant identification. Tbird+
Thankyou both for your replies. It was as I had feared. A new one. What I didnt mention before was the fact that my husband loves roses and alwas prunes the one in the garden, stating that he will "do it properly" and for me to leave it to him. Uhmmmm!! When I mentioned this , as I hugged my "appendage" he said he didnt know it wasnt a rose.! oh dear now that really made my day.
If your husband loves roses so much, how come he can't recognise the difference between a fig bush and a rose ?? I suggest you offer to give him his next hair cut rather than him going to the barber and give him a Yul Brynner (or a book on plant identification for his next birthday present !).
Who knows, perhaps your fig will surprise you and recover from the shock. Don't throw it out too prematurely. And remember the old saying "if you want something done properly, do it yourself !!".
