I cracked open a hens egg on the weekend to reveal a small, grey stone-like sphere along with the normal yolk. I didn't want to inspect it too closely and promptly flicked it into the bin. Now it has been haunting me and I feel a little bit sick and keep having the sensation it is in my throat..... What the devil was it? A 'wrong' beak? Some kind of clacification akin to a pearl? What? I hope it was nothing too odd as I had the egg anyway and it was delicious.

it was probably an egg from a young chicken./ in young hens, misshappen eggs or eggs with additionla calcium balls or lumps inside are common. This is the most likely explanation, that it was a lump of misdirected shell material, like a pearl.
