Can anyone help me with what food to serve at a 1950's themed party? I want to serve a buffet then people can help themselves as and when. Any authentic ideas would be welcome.

Extra's -
radish
beetroot
spring onions
Sweet -
Jelly & blamange
Sandwiches-
corned beef

first thing that comes to mind is coronation chicken, which i;m sure was devised for the queens coronation in 53, and can be used in loads of ways apart from that no other ideas i'm afraid but i'm sure the other abers will have loads of ideas for you
Did they have 'things on sticks' in the 50s? You know, cheese and pineapple, and chipolata sausages?

You could have crisps, but they'd have to be salt'n'shake.

Potted beef? Fish paste? Tinned Salmon? Tinned peaches with evaporated milk? Hovis?
I have just had a look through my book..
Post War Kitchen by Marguerite Pattern and there are things like
Coronation Chicken
Cheese Straws
Russian Salad
Sandwiches consist mainly of either egg, spam or corned beef or cucumber.
Sausage rolls
Stuffed eggs
Scotch eggs
Milk Jellies ..made with Carnation milk.
Tinned pineapple chunk and a cube of cheese on a cocktail stick.!
Not very inspiring !!

Definitely cubes of cheddar and pineapple chunks on cocktail sticks and stuck into an orange. How amusing!

Pork pie
Slices of black pudding
Cup cakes
Victoria sponges and Swiss rolls

Have fun. Don't forget the Rennies before you go to bed.
