nickmo-couldn't resist looking at your reply! what a great site , my hubby won't be getting bored with spuds anymore thanks to you.!
Try using a kumara (sweet potato) for a change. You can blanch and roast as usual.

Pleasure lotty.. - sorry if you'll be abandoned to the tatties thouogh and this makes for a lot of cooking !. If you like to try different potato varieties, have a look at http://www.heritage-potatoes.co.uk/

Anthony sells the veg online, so you could try a couple of varieties and then go for the seed before committing to growing before tasting. I' d really suggest you try Fortyfold - brilliant old variety reputed to have been brought to England by Wellingtons troops after Waterloo - or the Duke of Yorks, Red and White skinned as a good versatile variety. Highland Burgundy is a red flesh with white inner ring - thats a good one too....it will depend on your soil, but worth trying the older varieites as these give a real flavour.

The recipes at Astry site are brilliant - never too many ingredients, it seems, and loads to choose from. Enjoy...

cheers nickmo!

have you tried steamed new potatoes.they are lovely with butter.

  • Clean, dry & pierce med/large baking spuds, then wrap them in kitchen roll.

  • Place them in microwave until turning soft.

  • Partially slice them through in a shape of a fan.

  • Place some decent oil, a little butter & seasoning of your choice inbetween the slices.

  • Place them in the oven until crispy.

When it's just the two of us eating, my husband makes these & they're really scrumpious!

Try a mixture of sweet potato and baby new potato, cutting then into similar sized chunks. In a largish mixing dish add a tablespoon or so or olive oil and mix around then sprinkle with sesame seeds. Spread out on a shallow baking sheet and roast at 200 for 30-40 mins until tender.

jacket spud, mix sum swede in with your mash, use sweet potato instead.
meant that as 3 seperate things.
i love a bit of pickle or cheese mixed with my mash!
I love chopped chives or onion in my mash!

oohh you lot are awful!!! made me hungry so off i go to get those spuds..........
