is this just another case of political correctness going mad AGAIN

Whilst where on the subject is their anything else we should change to satisfy all faiths

wtf is goin on in this country right now,if anyone comes to this country they should have to live with the countrys traditions and if they dont want to ,please leave. we are not goin to force people to follow our traditions so why should we stop them.

I must be the thickest person on the planet - I just thought they put a cross on because they were called hot cross buns.

Dont you think people look too deeply into things - I bet the kids were just like me - couldnt care less as long as it tasted good.Just like easter eggs -(that'll be the next think).

Dont change anything - if you have a faith I was always taught it was personal and private.I remember at school the only reason we knew who were the catholic pupils was because on a wednesday we had a different assembly from them.

I think its the media who have gone mad and they misrepresent what us ordinary people think.

i'm with you dris i only found out about the cross when i read this question
I would say this is political correctness gone mad - I would say it is a head teacher gone mad.

If there was a directive from Department of Education calling for a ban, then I would agree it would be PC rubbish - personally I think that it is a head teacher who has gone barking and is in fact stirring up racial hatred - take this post as an example.

I am fairly confident (though an atheist) that the majority of people don't care what the other religions do - a lot of Christians are fascianted by Diwali (sp?) I have often found myslef at a chinese restaurant at their New Year etc etc.

I bet you any money that no one complained to the head - they are just trying to cause trouble themselves.
Maybe as an agnostic I am like you Vic - I just dont get it.Ignorance is bliss until someone tells you otherwise.Surely its up to the parents to explain any significance to their children not a third party.
it probably just a school that doesnt affiliate itself with any church or religions. My son I deliberatly sent to a CofE school and I am sure he will be enjoying hot cross buns. However despite being totally funded by a church, the school does embrace other religions actively and he often comes home with jewish or Islamic mocked up artifacts that he is has made and he is only 4. Maybe a lot of other schools should take a leaf out of their book and acknowledge at least Islamic and Jewsish major festivals as well as Christian.

Goodsoulette - I appreciate you point of view - but there is a difference between explaining the significance of hot cross buns and banning them.

(I could have done with someone explaining to me)

Anyway had I wanted my children taught religion I would have put them to Sunday School or explained myself.I put my children to school to be educated - but NOT to be taught religion by one individual who are basically teaching their perception of religion as it was not set out in my childrens school curriculum.I still maintain its personal.

My two are now of an age where they can make their own minds up as I have never even discussed the subject with them, as I said before I am agnostic. They are both well balanced,in spite of being brought up by me,they both have a chip on each shoulder:)

I think Muslims everywhere must be groaning in disbelief that some white middle class twit has yet again managed to stir up a furore for them, aside from everything else going on with the cartoons. Have any Muslim people actually asked for hot cross buns to be removed? My understanding of this is no they haven't. Why the hell can't people just use their common sense? Have hot cross buns, explain why, have Muslims festivals, Jewish festivals, hindu and sikh festivals all taught in a factual way and just all get over ourselves.

There was an Asian shopkeeper, Muslim I believe, who was tearing his hair out about the abuse he got from people bc a local council had banned calling their Christmas lights, "Christmas Lights". Most Muslims are not unreasonable, it's over zealous pc mad pseudo intellectuals who think they might get offended by things they never would. Then some extremeist nutter gets on the bandwagon and you have the whole thing splurged across the papers and a near riot on your hands, all over Christmas Lights or Hot Cross Buns. We've all got to grow up.

Does this mean they have to remove the ten foot crucifix from the top of our village Church then? We have a Muslem family living in our street, they moved in 6 months ago. The cross has been on the roof since 1910, but hey, let's not upset the new neighbours eh? Come to think of it, the Church itself is built in the shape of a cross, we'll have to get onto the Diocese and tell them they shall have to pull the Church down incase the Muslem or any other family object to the building.
The Parish Church was built in 1590, that's also in the shape of a cross, best get some contractors in soon, can't leave it up now, there's no telling who would be offended.
Come to think of it, there is a shop in Wigan selling Halal meat, I am offended by that, I don't tolerate stuff being sold that is only suitable for one religion.
Similar to these arguments is the fuss about the Red Cross being used in non-Christian countries. In fact the Red Cross symbol comes from the reversed Swiss flag which was used as a compliment to the country that hosted the Geneva Conventions.

Drisgirl - surely you must know that hot cross buns are sold at Easter, presume you know what Easter is all about.

Also ..... an athiest is not agnostic. An athiest is a non-believer but an agnostic has an open mind.

Trish - is it have a pop at me time.If you read the Q and my answers I at no time dissed anyone else - in fact my answers were honest and good humoured.

I said I was agnostic - I know what that means.I dont get you at all.I know the difference - I never at any point said I did not believe in God - not that its your blooming business.Have I insulted you at some point and is this your way of trying to bring me down.

I just have more on my mind to bother why there is a cross on a hot cross bun.You also always only got creme eggs at Easter but you get them all the time now.You get hot cross buns in my baker all the time as well,

I rest my case - its tubes like you who put others off from posting.Do people get off on being nasty to people.Bet you're a regular churchgoer - I find them to be the most pious.

trish - If you want to be pedantic (which from your post I assume you do) an athiest is not a "non-believer" - an athiest believes that there is not a God - quite a difference.
actually an Athiest believes nothing until proven. God? Prove it! That is an Athiest
******! I misread then in my alcohol riddled mind mistook Athiest for Agnostic for which I very sincerely apologise
