I have no idea whether this is true, but I just saw something on social media saying that the average number of cookery books a person owns is 8. Only 7% of us own 20 or more.

I just did a rough quick count of mine.

So let's play a guessing game. You guess how many cookery books the person above you has (but because of cross posting, perhaps best to post the name of the above poster too).

About 50 I'd say - and all sorts of cuisine. I think the people who buy them for me live in eternal hope! :o)

Actually, I'm quite a good cook - but I don't like it. Such a waste of time when the blighters just eat it! All my hard work demolished in minutes! My husband uses them more than me. He loves cooking - and is good at it too.

lol, in some ways, I agree with you. I can spend hours slaving over a meal for it to be gone in a few minutes and then I survey the scene of devastation in the kitchen (I am the world's messiest cook).

Mr BM says I have "too many". For once I probably agree with him.
I have 71, and I have previously culled them when we moved so goodness knows how many I had then!!

I have to say I rarely open them, preferring the internet these days.
Apart from a specialist ones which I use more for reference.
Exactly BM. Nothing but hard work and a waste of time. :o)
Question Author
RH, I don't actually use many of them now since I do tend to use the internet. But every now and again I'll remember a particular book and go to it for an idea. I also have a ring binder full of recipes I have printed over the years.

I think I might have to cull my collection. I counted roughly 112.
I must say I'm a clean cook. Clear and clean as I go, so the kitchen is always tidy...ish. My husband, on the other hand ... you've heard of that expression 'Looks like a bomb's hit it'? And I swear he uses every dish and pot and pan we possess - and that's just for something simple! Jeepers!
Question Author
lol, I am just like your husband in that respect.

A neighbour once asked Mr BM what I was making and he replied "a mess".
Haaaaaaaaaaaa! Oh how funny! Crying here!
