I'm assuming you were given a special bowl for rice.

For 100g of long grain rice put 250ml in the bowl and also fill steamer to max level. Steam for 30-35 mins. It's the same for easy cook white rice.

For 100g of brown rice, use 300ml of water in the bowl. Fill steamer to max level with water and steam for 40-45 minutes.

For 100g of easy cook brown, use 300ml of water in bowl. Fill steamer to max and steam for 45-50 minutes.

For 100g Basmati white, use 225ml of water in bowl. Fill steamer to max and steam for 30-35 minutes

For 100g of Long Grain and Wild, use 250ml of water in bowl. Fill steamer to max and steam for 40-45 mins.

These steamer timings are a guide only, depending on your personal tastes.

For 225g quantities, double the quantity of water in the bowl and add between 5 and 10 minutes to the cooking time, depending on your preference.

Also, you can put the rice bowl in a basket at any of the steamer levels, if you so choose. I have a three tier stacking system.

I've often wondered how many people actually use rice steamers and whether they're worth the space they take up in the kitchen. I always use the method dished out by Fanny Craddock years ago - chuck it into a large pan of boiling water and boil for 12 minutes. It never fails.

cover your rice with cold salted water, put on a tightly fitting lid, bring to the boil then switch off the heat and leave with the lid on tight for 10-12 mins. it's cooked, and you will save fuel.
