I say what I like cos I like what I say, I don't think anything I say is beyond the pale - if the prissy mods don't like it well tough luck but I wish you luck with your failing site.
It can be very frustrating on here sometimes, you read a thread your interested in then check on it later only to find it's removed. That's not good if you want people to return.
As I've said before, mods should not have the power to delete threads, or to suspend members. Mods should only be able to delete replies within a thread.
One long-time member, and mod, on here once said that members can only be suspended after a consultation with Ab Editor. That was clearly not the case. Now, the said member has denied ever saying any such thing. Well, I hadn't dreamt it!
I don’t know what's upset davebro but I will respond to Clarion. The editors aren't around 24/7 so mods have to be able to ban and suspend people. The system isn't perfect, but no one can please everyone all of the time, and mods, like everyone else, make mistakes, but If not banned outright, Spammers and trolls have a habit of returning - and along with deliberate trouble makers would run riot if left to their own devices. There have been some really nasty threads and posts on here - hateful. They, along with their authors, are best removed.
Mmm. Thanks for that Naomi, but I'm not totally convinced. I get it with the spammers and the trolls, but all mods on here are familiar with most users. Some users have been suspended for nothing more than disagreeing with someone. And why would one mod tell me one thing, then deny ever saying it? I don't expect you to answer that. How could you?
If those mods who go predominantly for spam couldn't delete threads then their role is almost zero. You surely can't expect them to go looking for individual spam posts in a spam thread to deal with one at a time; that must already be difficult enough catching spam posts in existing threads without making it an always thing; and merely reporting tham all to the Ed means they have to deal with them anyway, long after the websearches have noticed the reference. It just wouldn't work.
I have had only one post removed by a mod as far as I know and it definitely didn't break any rules. The excuse given was so ludicrous I still laugh about it.
As Naomi says, mods are human. This site would be horrible without moderation
