I need to take a bottle of wine to someones house tomorrow - but I know nothing about wine really...

I need a white wine, but I know they don't like sweet wine, so anyone got any suggestions of what I could get? Not too epxensive either!

Thanks!

It all depends on how much they know about wine.

A Chardonnay would generally be ok.

Look for a Chablis at about 10 and you'll probably cover their tastes, re:previous answer, sometimes Chardonnay can be a little 'smoky' even if you like really dry white wine (like i do!)
A good one is Pinot Grigio - very nice, not pricey. Have a good time.
Sainsbury's Anjou..always.

From Sainsbury's, about 4.00

Ernest & Julio Gallo - Sierra Valley - Chardonnay

Read about it here (choose The Cellar, then Gallo Sierra Valley, then Chardonnay)

..jacobs creek...around 6 in the supermarkets...

Wolf Blass - Yellow Label (Chardonnay)

Pinot Grigio...a fantastic wine

Sorry jocasta but Chardonnay is the grape variety used in the production of Chablis, so they are one and the same thing. They can be 'oaky', particularly the new world Chardonnay where they have been know to shovel oak chippings into the fermentation vats to try and reproduce the flavour given off by the charred Burgundy barrels.

If I was going along with zipadeedodah I would take a South American (Argentina or Chile) Sauvignon Blanc. Best value wines on the market.
