I’m not a confident cake baker but I have mastered a lovely apple cake that has become a firm favourite with MrM.

It’s his birthday soon and he’s asked me to bake one for the occasion and we will have a dozen people here.

Can I simply double the quantities and use a bigger tin? Will it need much longer in the oven?

It’s a simple cream the butter and sugar method, fold in flour, add sultanas and apples.

I think I'd make 2 cakes, just to be safe.
Agree with Rocky 2 cakes is much easier if you have mastered that size
^that was my first thought, too.
agree with rockyracoon, use your usual recipe and tin, and make two.
Make 2 and put one on top of other with a filling or butter cream.
Salted caramel goes well with apple
It sounds good. Any chance you could share the recipe? I think everyone is getting bored with my lemon drizzle!
Better do two, the double up method can be a bit bit and miss with soggy middle and overdone edges if you don't adjust your timing correctly. If it wasn't a special day I would say give it a go.
Can we have the recipe please
rowan; Your imagery is a bit too vivid for me. My dream has been shattered. I always thought my timing was one of my good points, but I've lost my confidence now. It's not a special day.

I think you’re all right. I will make two or so maybe I could do a tray bake. I was concerned about a large one being stodgy in the middle.
