Do you put food out for the birds?

Or hedgehogs and other critters for that matter?

I've just found some florentine mince pies and mini stollen I forgot I had and some OOD Brioche buns that little G wasn't keen on and I've just thrown the lot out with some crusts of bread.

I like looking after the birdies :-)

I feed them all day every day ! costs me a small fortune ! lol
and the hedgies !!
Question Author
Morning Minty. I haven't fed the hedgies yet and I haven't been lucky enough to see one. We will get a hedgehog feeding station though when the garden is done. And a proper bird table.

How are you? xx
feeling a bit better now ta ! xx
I have loads of feeding tables and hanging doodahs for the birdies..and a hideaway home for hedgies..they come along every night and toddle off..there must be a few large nesting sites nearby judging by their numbers

I woke up with dreadful back pain but getting up and moving around helped. OH sent me back to bed and brought me a cup of tea and hot water bottle. He's a keeper.

I wish my nan was still alive, she used to make big fat balls for the birds and they loved them.
Suet pellets, mixed seed, suet block and live waxworms, get blue and great tits and the odd robin, not bad for seven floors up. The balcony is netted to keep bigger birds out so the little ones seem to like it.

That's awesome, Minty. I know birds aren't everyone's cup of tea but we should all do our bit to look after them, shouldn't we.

My parents have loads of bird tables, nesting boxes and so on. They have blackbirds that come practically up to the back door to ask for their currants.

Fantastic, Rowan, and good morning BTW!

I do get a lot of magpies and crows in my back garden, so all too often the littler birdies have to bide their time and hope for a few scraps.
When I lived with Teri we had a big garden seventeen feeding stations plus three bird baths and two wildlife ponds. As Minty said, costs a fortune but we did but seed and fastballs in bulk.
morning Rowan xx bird baths aplenty too ! it's like a 5 star hotel oot there ! lol
we are close to a large country park and get all manner of birds ..raptors and badgers foxes etc
Question Author
That sounds amazing. I could watch them feed all day. They're funny when they squabble.

I'm the same with fish. I would love to keep tropical fish but they take so much looking after and time is something I don't have plenty of.

So it's the scan today? ❤️

Fantastic Minty! Oh aren't they cute... ❤️
I tend not to give them seed as it germinates and I suspect I have been growing illicit crops at times ! mainly suet blocks..balls pellets and things from the table /bread etc
You need a ground feeder then, you will find you will see more dunnocks and the thrush family as they prefer to feed on the ground. Something like this set up.

they seem to be growing in numbers too Ladycg which is great although the cat sniffs rather haughtily at them !
problem with ground feeders and cats Rowan ! don't want to bait them
although I also scatter some pellets around the base of feeders..they soon get gobbled up
