A chocolate company making advent calendars purposely left the space for 8 December empty. In the wake of complaints the company say the advent calendar was designed with the same unequal distribution of chocolate as its bars, which highlights the use of slavery in the chocolate industry. Tony’s also acknowledged that it “failed to consider the difficulties empty windows can cause for our neurodivergent children and adults”.

I've no idea what 'neurodivergent children and adults” are - but I'll stick to Quality Street.

people with (for instance) autism.

Ahhh, is that it. Thanks mushroom.
Why didn't they just say autism then?
^ My thoughts exactly !
Perlease!
A stupid stunt which has created a lot of negative publicity for the firm.

But a lot of over reaction too from Mail readers. There was one chocolate missing, hardly the end of the world.
"Why didn't they just say autism then?"

"Several recognised types of neurodivergence, include autism, Asperger's syndrome, dyslexia, dyscalculia, epilepsy, hyperlexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and Tourette syndrome"

That's why...
// hardly the end of the world. //

maybe not. but i'm guessing you've never had to deal with an autistic child who completely melts down when confronted with the unexpected.

Gromit, the report is from the Independent.

As well-intentioned as this sort of thing might be - and that, in my opinion, is debateable - it so often has its proponents climbing up their own bottoms. They remove a chocolate to highlight slavery and inadvertently succeed in upsetting others who they would also very much like to virtue signal all over. An 'oops' moment.
It might have had more impact had all the chocolates been laid along the bottom of the calendar, head to toe and with a little chain attached to each with the whole thing presented in an envelope depicting black and Arabic traders counting their loot as they waved the ship off.
There was never any chocolates in my advent calendar, just a picture loosely related to Christmas.

I see that on the calendar it states there is no chocolate on the 8th but offers 15% off its website sales instead
Don't think Advent Calendars can be long for this world. This is the 3rd negative story I've seen about them this year.
They were a thing of great wonder when I were little. We only saw second hand ones sans chocolate. sob
^Slight fib. We had them in school or church but all they had behind the windows was stupid old religious stuff, donkeys, angels and such like.
We knew of the myth of the chocolate ones that celebrated the real meaning of Christmas.

Advent Calendars, a sign of the times to come.

What a load of old Rolos.
"Hey, look, Ted! There's three lads looking at a star. What's that all about?"
I love the advent calendars for dogs and so does my dog, she gets so excited every morning when it's time to open another door and take the treat out !
// I've no idea what 'neurodivergent children and adults” are// then why are we blaarrting ?

Ans: because it is AB - - isnt it to remind people that the cocoa labourers are in the hands of the big firms and are getting absolutely screwed by them? - - - sozza one of those days - - - yes it is.

and so we - in the midst of chocco - should think of others

Now - thought for the day (*) in the First Week of Advent - what was the function of advent - you atheists and heretics ? - time of anticipation of Christs birth and a time of - - guess what - - -- yes abstinence and reflection before the feast of the 12 d of chrissy

abstinence and there was then a little slippage into advent of the goodies of Christmas - just a taste, and then a little more taste

and then a lot more of one - - hence the move from donkeys and plastic angels to chocco, and onto consumption of huge amounts of chocco

and so ( went the thought of the day) (*) it was, the empty advent day space in the calendar, hearking back to the purpose of Advent as was.

just a - - thought

(*) thought of the day one liner warning!
thought of the day - fort uvva die? an ABer quips: "I dont fink for a monf a lotta the time!" - - ay thenk yew

someone has got free men looking at a star ( somewhere else on this thread) - no 16 - dear old atheist. mwah! You know that one of the magi is traditionally black? ( Balthazar ) Jesus you godless lot, I bet no one can name the other two !

carry on blaaarting !
^ Rude
"carry on blaaarting"yourself. You are the undisputed master of"blaaaarting"on this site.
