Hello,
I'm university student in Japan.
I've been studying UK food to write graduation thesis.

I have some questions for everyone about that.
✓Do you like UK food? why?
and would you please tell me if you know something related to UK food, culture or ways of thinking about food and so on.

Apg (no doubt confusing her further...), do you ever have sandwiches and call it "dinner"? What does that mean to you?
I wasn't born and raised in the UK..American by birth. But I've lived here for 30+ years, and there's lots of UK/English food I've still not had. Like jellied eels, laverbread, stargazey pie or Glamorgan sausages. There's plenty I have had and like...haggis, Cullen skink, toad in the hole, Cornish pasties, Eaton Mess, sausages of all kinds and black pudding. These are very traditional foods that though they may not be spicey, they do have flavour. Did I mention cheese?...British cheese is excellent. Nothing beats a good mature cheddar.

Mina, when people refer to fish and chips, the fish is done in batter. But it's not as light as tempura batter.
Breakfast -Lunch (hot or cold) -Supper (at around 7pm) I would only have a sandwich at lunchtime . We used the term 'dinner' as a mid-day meal- at School, and when I stayed with my nana in the NE of England.
Ah, thanks x
I think she is proper confused now.
A lot of Japanese people come here to study would it be possible for you to ask for their help with clarification?
Sorry! Here, "supper" would be a light, late evening meal, used by people pretending to be posh.
Good luck, mina x
mina, if you would like to have answers that are more-detailed, more-specific, you might find it helpful if you could ask suitably-directed questions. At the moment, you seem to be getting general answers to your questions, so you might like to have more-detailed answers.
Regarding culture and ways of thinking about food......roast dinner is traditionally eaten on a Sunday and fish & chips is traditionally eaten on a Friday.
Please don't google Manchester Tart, you could get entirely the wrong idea!
Pixie // Here, "supper" would be a light, late evening meal, used by people pretending to be posh.//

Really? How strange. 'Supper' in my nanas house, NE of England, mining town, was a snack before bed with a hot drink and they were not pretending to be posh. As for me, I'm from Canada where the main meal of the evening is always 'Supper' -but then again, I am posh -very posh :oP
