I boiled 2 eggs on friday and i just opened one and the yolk has turned a semi-blue/grey colour! What does that?

its normal. you can eat it. try putting the egg immediately into cold water after boiling next time

gas produced when the egg is heated (related to that produced when the egg is digested!!) safe to eat but may taste a bit strong

It's perfectly safe - it just means you have been boiling your eggs for far longer than necessary. I know some people who will boil eggs for 25 minutes because they wanted them 'hard boiled'. About 4 to 5 minutes is fine, and then drop them in cold water.


The yolks will then be bright yellow and fluffy textured rather than dull yellow, crumbly, and with a blue / grey ring around the outermost part.

You boiled it on Friday. And opened it TODAY! eeek!
