Sounds good. Might get one when I move.
Thanks Chris & gness - plenty to think about :)
Roy - everytime I get rid of the kids someone else moves in!! I'm lucky at the moment, I live with a clean freak :-)
The beauty of it is that you don't have to watch over it as you would with a frying pan. You may need to experiment a little bit with cooking times. You can also spray cooking oil on it to give it a more authentic flavour of the chip shop.
My friend has used one for years and uses a small amount of lard to get 'proper' chips.
I've given up on most kitchen gadgets as they very often just end up unused at the back of the cupboard - and so many of them are huge.

I will never, ever relinquish my slow cooker / pressure cooker although I have replaced them with a super dooper two in one that saves space and is much easier to use than my old hob top pressure cooker.

I was never tempted by the halogen oven although so many raved about them and I'm not interested in the air fryer.
Wouldn't be without one.
The problem for me (as with many such things) is that "air fryer" is a misnomer. The device does not fry food, it roasts it. As suggested, it is a mini fan oven. "But everybody knows what they mean". Well I don't. A fryer that does not fry is not a fryer.
NJ, it fries chips, chicken etc with the aid of a small amount of oil.
I believe Ray Mears has the edge on all cooking vessels, and very cost effective.

I'll not labour the point, danny, but you cannot fry food in air. That process is called roasting. What an "air fryer" does is effectively roasts food that is coated with oil. I hate to see people misled by incorrect use of words which are concocted by some smart Alec salesman. I'm sure they are perfectly efficient and useful devices but just tell it like it is.
NJ, sorry, but we will have to differ. So let's leave it at that.
Something we've wondered for all the years we've been using an air fryer, NJ. It must be immediately off putting for those who don't want to eat fried food.
It's the fact it doesn't fry that is one of the good things about it for me.
I agree with NJ. Mine does lovely sausages but does not fry them, it bakes them.
I agree, NJ. For years my home made 'chips' have been chipped potatoes brushed with very little oil and put in the oven at a very high temperature. Very nice they are, too, but they are not chips which need to be totally immersed in some form of fat and fried.

I would much prefer to eat deep fried chips but my weight and arteries must take priority over my taste buds.

I have a halogen oven and love it would not be without one. They are often referred to as air fryers. Saves putting on large oven cooks almost everything.
