Lisa and John Torode used these last Sunday.

I have never heard of them - Sainsburys have them tinned. Are they nice.

I love them but find them a tad sweet
I can't really remember how much I like them but I know I did (haven't eaten one for years) they are used a lot in Chinese desserts.
Question Author
they are tinned in a syrup so that would make them even sweeter. Rather than tinned is it easy enough to buy them as a fruit
I don’t like them jj, slimy texture .
If you have a sweet tooth, yes they are delicious.

I don't know why I done this but bought tinned apples a cuppla months ago and found them too slimy too - threw them out. Maybe I'll not bother
Question Author
Are they "fattening" lOl
Here's the data on fresh if you can get them.

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/foods/lychees#nutrition
In Europe, fresh lychees are available from November to January, but they are most often sold canned, preserved in sugar syrup.

right - I see that they are high in carbs, I have cut out bread now for about 5 days so don't want to introduce any more carbs. Thanks everybody for your replies.
Sainsburys have fresh in at the moment. They are usually available May/Jun to September
I love them, I have a lychee tree in my garden, but unfortunately mine are not as sweet or as big as the ones I normally purchase. Mine are a bit more tangy, probably the tree is not getting the right nutrients!

Same as most fruits, eg apples, different varieties taste differently. The tinned ones are normally very sweet and made sweeter still by the syrup. Fresh are much better.
You're spot on, imported obviously. Silly me.

they have a texture that puts one in mind of offering up a slug to one's lips!
Handy as eyeballs in a Halloween punch bowl too.
Bednobs, the fresh ones are not at all slimy.
Me no Lychee. Too sweet.
They used to e called Chinese Gooseberries! If that helps !
They are normallty sold tinned in Syrup !
T hey have very little taste!
^^Wrong again....Chinese gooseberry is another name for KIWI fruit!!!
I like the fresh ones you peel. Don't think I've ever tried the tinned ones.
