In October,President Trump imposed a painful(for European producers)25per cent ad valorem tariff on a list of imports from the EU that includes single malt whiskies from Scotland and Ireland,Italian cheese, and still wine of less than 14.1% ABV made in France,Germany,Spain and the UK.the move was precipitated by a three per cent French levy on digital giants and the long running Airbus-Boeing trade dispute.
Trump tweeted
A.We will announce a substantial reciprocal action on Macrons foolishness shortly.Ive always said American wine is better than French wine!
B.The French are getting hit and slammed on wine!Bordeaux is getting less popular every day
C.it hurts me more than it hurts you to do this but it’s for your own good.
I think it’s C but am not sure
Many thanks for any help
American wine is not horrible. In fact America had to export vines back to France when French vines were almost all obliterated around 1860 by phylloxera. I suggest you try a Berringer Cab Sav. or an Oregon Pino Gris before making sweeping judgements.
You're right, Aunt Polly. It isn't really fair to say that all American wine is horrible. I was in the USA for 3 weeks, some time ago, and all the wine that I tasted was from the USA. None of it was 'horrible'. Every wine that I drank was very good indeed.
