warm food - fridges - why not?

i know it's not energy efficient to put warm food in the fridge & it heats all the other food in there too.
but several people have told me it's bad for that particular bit of hot food too. it makes the food unhealthy in some way. nobody can tell me why though. any ideas?

thanks angie. that article says that one should put warm food in fridge as long it's divided into small containers. so my friends were wrong?
