1000's of dogs are in animal shelters in the UK looking for homes. Should people be banned from bringing rescue dogs from other countries back to Britain.?

Yes, 100%
Yes they should
No
Why should they be banned. If your reason is that it would increase the number of rescue dogs in the UK, then why not ban the purchase of dogs other than those in animal shelters?
people bringing rescue dogs from other countries are few and far between so the impact on unwanted dogs already here is negligible
I personally know 4 people who have recently got rescue dogs from abroad. It appears to be getting more popular.

It's not that it would increase the number of rescue dogs here, it's that the dogs here should be rescued before tohers are brought in.
on the fence on this one as every dog deserves a decent home.
What I am against is unscrupulous people bring sick puppies from abroad and selling them to unsuspecting new owners.
NO 100%, that is how I got my lovely dog and when I first met her at the rescue centre I didn't know she was from abroad. They didn't tell me until I had met her twice and decided I wanted her. What sort of person would I have been if I had then said 'oh no, I don't want her if she's from abroad' ??? A nasty one imo.

A better question to ask would be 'should people be banned from buying dogs from breeders as there are thousands in dogs homes throughout the country'? I would say a resounding YES to that !
In one of the Skandi states dogs are not allowed to be purchased unless the rescue centres are empty!
I think it should be better controlled than it is. There are “rescues” who bring in dogs sometimes by the hundred without thought for what is best for the dog. Often they are feral from generations of feral dogs and are never going to settle in a domestic home...and there are puppy farmers in europe as bad or worse than the puppy farmers in wales. There is also this and I bet its not the only gang who do similar and involve a vet. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-44902044
Which one is that Rockrose? I couldn’t find it by googling

No. I don't think there should be a ban, but as Woofy says, it should be controlled more.
Why would anybody want one? It doesn't benefit the animal any way, does it?
Question Author
^^^ best ask someone who has. Maybe they think the dogs need a home more than those in the UK
Question Author
How can you control it? What sorts of control? Surely that would be crueler as some dogs would get in and some wouldn't?
I bit like people then, eh!
I have a friend who lives in Denmark. She is seriously concerned about the risk of rabies coming into Denmark through the uncontrolled and illegal import of “rescue” dogs. She says if nothing is done to control it, it will be when not if. I have lived in America, in New Jersey where there is rabies. Belive me, you don’t want it here.
When I stop travelling I will find a link, it those concerns about rabies need to e aware that all dogs bought into the uk from shelters have their pet passport and all inoculations including rabies
