I saw some raspberry flavoured rice pudding on the telly over Christmas, and thought, I’ll give that a whirl. What’s not to like, raspberrries, rice pudding.....

Well, I’ve just pulled it out of the oven and it’s absolutely rank. Not the lush fuschia hue that I was after, but more a dirty grey pink with curdled milk at the top. What a waste of 4 pints of milk :0)

Never mind what it looks like.... what does it taste like?

If it tastes nice, you can still eat it, or if the colour really puts you off, mix in some raspberry coulis, or even some cochineal colouring!
Question Author
Oh no. I forgot that bit. It tastes awful.
Yummy :)

It’s no not, Sherr.

I’m making some more tomorrow night, and we’ll make do with raspberry jam.
Question Author
So not, not no not!
Sorry - sarcasm doesn’t come across well on here.
Take the easy way out: Cheat!

This may come out of a tin but I find it surprisingly tasty:

£1.10 in Sainsbury's & Morrisons, 2 for £1.50 in Tesco (or £1 each) but just 60p in Asda.
Aww, what a shame. Perhaps next time just swirl in some fresh raspberries.
Did you use proper pudding rice?

If yes, then I'm wondering why it tastes so bad.
What type of milk was it? If it was skimmed, that might not have been creamy enough for a rice pudding, possibly.

What was the recipe?
How can a sweet, milky, rice pudding taste rank? What have you done to it? Did you put salt in instead of sugar? :-)
Question Author
I used what I normally do, full fat milk, rice, sugar. Then I added the flipping raspberries
Perhaps the raspberries were too sour?
I'm confused now. Was it flavoured rice?
Ahhh Rice pud with a dollop of Raspberry/Strawberry jam in the middle. Nose bleed we used to call it at Grammar School.
Or was that sago pudding with jam...…...or was that frog spawn?
I make blackcurrant rice pudding which is really nice with Ribena- I'm so Cordon Bleu lol :)
Question Author
Patsy, I put a couple of tins of raspberries in it before I put it in the oven.
Question Author
How did you make it, Kval?
Tinned raspberries?
Euww...is that what the recipe called for? I always think they look and taste nasty...sorry.
Question Author
No Pasta, it wasn’t a recipe. I just cobbled it together.
