Hgrove if this is serious, ar you sure you want to ask this on a site so filled with jokers??

It is completely serious and you have a point, it did cross my mind that someone might give me a 'rogue', shall we say, translation. Which is a shame because I feel the Answerbank should be useful in cases such as this. Never mind: I have the mob.no. of another Polish builder, one of his 'mates', who speaks good English and I will sort it out that way. Thanks anyway.

There are websites which provide rough translations - I used one when I was buying something on ebay from a German seller who sent German emails.

The translation was a bit rough and ready but worked.

There is a site called

www.poltran.com

but it says it is temporarily unavailable at the moment.

i know some polish, but none of what you ask, but if you wanted to be hospitable to the workers and say 'hello how are you? you can say 'chesht...yak shoomash?' i would write it in polish but you pronounce the words differently in english....its all very confusing.
