Have you heard this term used? I heard it for the first time today in a radio discussion about Seann Walsh's treatment of his girlfriend.

Yes, I knew it was from the film but hadn't heard it used before
I think it's a term that fell out of favour for a while, but yes I had heard it.
The young lady has dubious taste in men.
No, never heard that before and I'm no spring chicken ! Looking forward to seeing this pair next Saturday ...
I hadn't heard it, but read the explanation in the paper today.

The Mail has proper got its trolleys in a robble about it, but then they do appeal to people in the Home Counties who whish it was still 1958, so for them, this is a scandal, and pointless nonsense to the result of us.
Yes, I've heard the term - but how is it being applied in this instance? Apart from kissing someone else what has he done?

(I don't know if there's been a re-make of the movie, but the original with Ingrid Bergman is superb).
I'm glad he got filmed. Worm.
Naomi - // es, I've heard the term - but how is it being applied in this instance? Apart from kissing someone else what has he done? //

The lady in question has advised the media that her boyfriend frequently belligerently denied her suspicions that he was being unfaithful, calling her mental health into question as an excuse.

I guess that qualifies him for the term 'gaslighting' - if you can really be bothered about it.
All we know is what we've seen. We have no idea on how he's made her feel behind closed doors and we have no idea how long he's been unfaithful to his Mrs and with whom.
If he's a 'worm' spath, what is she?? She's married, he's not!

Yes I agree naomi, great old film, wish they'd show it again.
spath - // All we know is what we've seen. We have no idea on how he's made her feel behind closed doors and we have no idea how long he's been unfaithful to his Mrs and with whom. //

We don't, but the trick is, don't waste any mental energy at all on the behaviour of people old enough to know better, being used as a puff piece for a Saturday night entertainment show.
HereIAm she's a parasite. Every one needs a host.
Totally agree AH. Do we think they should be booted off the show for giving it and the dance such a bad reputation? Might make some views feel uncomfortable after they've seen the two cheating on their partners.
Well, I wasn’t bothered about it, which is why I hadn't read the fine details and didn’t know what was going on …. but the word ‘gaslighting aroused my curiosity. Thanks for the explanation,
^that to andy-hughes.
I don't want them booted off and I hope they aren't !

They will stay because it is publicity for them, and the show.

As to whether they should be booted off - let me just see if I can muster the strength to be even remotely bothered …

ah …

No, sorry, I can't!!!
yes I have heard the term. Properly its used to describe a form of abuse.
