When, for instance, packet pasta or soup or something says 'chicken flavourings' or similar - does this mean that it is just artificial flavouring and would be ok for veggies or does it contain meat?

I know some say 'suitable for Veggies' on the pack, but i wondered if some didn't put that on because they thought it might put meat-eaters off and make them think they're not getting decent food?

how can you tell if they don't make it clear

thanks

Oops, thought thats where I'd put it - doh!
I've reported it for you, so it should get put in the right category :-)

Hi joko, the only way to be sure is to assume that, if it is supposed to be a animal/bird/etc..flavouring then it is real meat.

I know somebody with allergy to seafood and they sometimes do and sometimes don't get reaction with various foods marked ''prawn flavoring'' so you just got to assume its all meat and avoid it.

If it states "suitable for vegetarian" the law says that it has to be meat free. Flavourings can be derived from chemicals or natural sources. I suggest you research additives, flavourings and EU directives.

Best of luck in a "grey" area.
