Sorting through my late father's garage I came across an unopened and sealed bottle of Royal Salute Blended Scotch Whisky in a burgundy coloured velvet bag. At the time it was a 21 year old Scotch and according to my mother they have had it at least 30 years making the contents 50+ years old! Can anyone here shed any light on this? Is it okay to drink still or is it worth anything? Many thanks.

Really appreciated webbo3. Thank you
which one Webbo, I am on an Ardbeg 10....I'll shift this week to a Highland Park.....
Patrick. If I were you I would sup the bleeding lot, and toast my dad at every nip. I wouldn't be able to bear someone else drinking it.

Webbo3, what can I say other than you are a legend!
Thank you. :-)
Nobody seems to have pointed out that a 21-year-old whisky remains a 21-year-old whisky however long it's sitting at the back of a cupboard (or, in this case, garage).

The 'age' of a whisky is the length of time it spends maturing in casks (and thus absorbing the flavours of the wood and whatever was previously in those casks, such as port or sherry).

While Patrickstar might have what's now a very rare whisky, it's still a 21-year-old one, not a 50-year-old one.
Really fancying a nice whisky now! What a find, lucky you! :)
Technically Chris it is a 50 year old whisky, but one thats only been aged for 21 years (im being pedantic) :-)
Ignore the mixer Patrick. It is 21 years old with 30 years experience. Something that certain opinionists cannot comprehend.
You'll never get a job with the Advertising Standards Agency, Webbo3 ;-)
lol
>>> Ignore the mixer Patrick

I sincerely hope that nobody would ever think of adding a mixer to that whisky ;-)
To right, Chris. Sacrilege.

Buenchico, you have always offered me fab advice. I will toast you and webbo3 the best of seasonal health when I open one of the dozens of miniatures of whiskies, brandies and others I have also come across, though the biggest cheers will be for my late father. Will see what my mother wishes to do with all of the bottles we have come across including 4 bottles of champagne. If they are sold on I dare say any proceeds will go to the hospice who cared for my father in his final days and deserving they will be too. Cheers dad, hope you are looking down and smiling.
DTC, Ben Bracken, Lidl’s own Islay malt, just over £17, not in the same league as Argbeg or Lagavulin but still good
Enjoy your drink Patrick and raise a glass or two to your Dad and hopefully you’ll raise a few quid as well.
Chris, there's only one thing that you add to any Scotch as the purists know and it's not even water, it's more of the Scotch.
Waitrose have Highland Park for 25 a bottle down here....
