Hi, I have just bought a bread maker and I'd like to know what ingredients i will need.

Can anyone give me a list of ingredients, for basic bread, that I can buy before it arrives. Types and amounts would be great

Thank you

Hooray! Bread machines are great, and the supermarkets usually quite good.  Except the flour and water you will need tablespoons/teaspoon measures (usually come with machine) of the following:

For white bread you will need STRONG white bread flour (clearly labelled, and with all the other flours in the supermarket in my experience), dried skimmed milk powder, sunflower oil, dried yeast (make sure you get a packet that says 'suitable for bread machines' on it), sugar, salt, water.  I usually use strong wholemeal flour (with which I use brown sugar).

Why not start off with some of the all in one breadmixes you can buy in the supermarket - most of these can be used in breadmakers. You can add herbs and flavourings to them.

I bake my own bread by hand to a Nigel Slate recipie. All you need for that is 1 kg of strong white bread flour, 20g salt, 2 sachets of yeast, and it tastes delicious.

I would be lost without my bread maker.  I experimented with different flours.  Hovis premium white is great, but there is another flour called Wrights premium white.  Hovis gives a smaller more solid loaf and the Wrights loaf is a lot bigger and lighter - too light really.  My recipe needs 400 grms. of flour, so I now use 300 gr. of Hovis and 100 gr. of the Whites - great.   I also use Hovis dried yeast sachets. You will need drdied milk powder too.
