I was talking to a friend yesterday and she was shocked at what I spend weekly - she said hers was at least double! So I told her that I do a weeks menu for evening meals every single week ( doesn't matter what night we eat them, I just swap it about) and then go through freezer and cupboard to see what I have, always cook from scratch apart from maybe once a fortnight takeaway. So ignoring alcohol or cigarettes(we don't smoke anyway) I spent about £40 per week on all food and household items, plus about £20 at local butchers but that can often last two weeks worth of meals. That's for two of us and always extra meals to freeze in that. Friend says she spends well over £100 per week on just the two of them!

My shopping bill would probably average at about £100...but my large chest freezer is packed full.
your friend should stop shopping at fortnum and masons for her basic meals ...

i now spend a lot more than i used to, it does vary, but since shopping on line, this is due to mobility problems,
i am seriously out of pocket.
well done you that very frugal.
Although I have snacks for the kids included in that. I haven't seen my daughter for a week though :-)

(when I say kids, they're adults)
it is all in the planning smow..I do the same I plan meals and buy what I need..always have loads of veg in..so soup is always an option...make my bread and rolls as and when....we don't smoke ..oh has a tin or two at night..we like plain fare nowt fancy..lots of chicken..pasta..fish..like salmon and scampi..puff pastry in freezer and en croute is easy...not a lot of red meat. ..although steak tonight....buy mince for chilli..lasagne...spagehetti etc...so not a lot of waste....probably around £60 per week but that will result in some frozen meals too..

we do buy wine on top of that but trying to eat healthier so there is no crisps, biscuits , chocolate etc in that. Plus if I do something like a chilli or bolognese I always cook double and freeze half
once a month or so will stock up on choccie biccies from bargain stores...mainly other folk that eat them though...always have a range of crackers chutney and pickles for cheese..sometimes if don't feel hungry will have cheese and crackers or paté ...
i sometimes do that make enough for 2 maybe three meals and freeze it. shopping online has its drawbacks as sometimes you don't get an item or too many of one thing, but currently i can't manage to get out to shop properly.

It's interesting how people's bills can vary!
I never buy crisps or biscuits. If the kids are peckish they have something on toast.
as a singleton mine can vary between 20 and 25 a week then though i don;t often need so much so order every two weeks. you factor in delivery costs which sainburys charge at around 7 quid.
Question Author
Sainsbury's charge £7? That's a lot!
depends on time of day, on the odd occasion its be 2 quid or 3 but generally its 7, which is a lot, but from what i read and watched on tv, shopping on line is not necessarily economical for the good giants. There are those who pick the food, van drivers, petrol, you have factor that in when shopping on line.
ASDA and TESCO I think charge £5....not sure though
If you take out booze and pet food I spend £30 on human food pw
typo, sorry that should be food giants, not good giants, heavens above.

here it's £7 if you chose a weekend mid slot. You can get it for £1 if you get it for example on a wednesday afternoon
waitrose don't charge, but you have to spend 60 quid, which is ok for those who like convenience and if you order and pick up from the store you still have to spend 40 quid.
i have never really looked at mine but i would estimate somewhere around £75 pw for 3 of us. That does not include £40 pm for dog food
