I was sitting in the garden yesterday, when my missus brought me a frozen jubbly. I knew we had them in the freezer, as she told me she'd bought some last week. Lovely, thirst-quenching, BUT.........it seemed tiny. I hadn't had (or seen, even) a jubbly for about forty odd years. Didn't they used to be HUGE great icebergs back in the day, not the 62ml they are now?

When I was about 5yrs old (60 yrs ago) they were 4p.Didn't know you could still get them albeit diminished in size. Perhaps they are trying to prove Global warming exists and the Jubbly's are shrinking. :-)
Were they in a cardboard triangular(sort of) box? I remember them being really big. I used to get really sticky eating them because they always melted before you got to the bottom.
Good afternoon Retro - are you home?

Yes, the shape is still the same. You cut one edge and squeeze the ice through the hole. They are sold in boxes of ten for £1. Strawberry, it was, yet I only recall orange ones.
Afternoon Margo
Yes. Arrived back in blighty at 0100 on 1/7/15.
I only recall the Orange ones. "Lubbly,Jubbly. Lovely juicy orange drink." That was the TV jingle for them.
Yes I only remember orange ones.
I remember them in the 50s. They were big chunky pyramid/triangle shaped things and the orangey part always went to one side so the rest of it was just a clump of boring ice.
Hope you enjoyed your holiday Retro, you deserved it x
Perhaps they seemed bigger back in those days as our hands were smaller. :-) x
Retro....don't you mean 4d? ;)

Oooer. I've just googled ' jubbly size' and was surprised at what came up ha ha. I had no idea. Anyway, yes, apparently the original ones were 150 ml, two and a half times larger than these.
Margo
Fantastic thanks. One year overdue but still here to enjoy it. Worth the wait.
Baths 4D. ??
Old pence, not new pence.
Thanks Sip my old friend. Am still working with Euros at the mo :-) Yes my jubbly's were 4 old pennies but if Mr Hopkins, the newsagent, wasn't looking we nicked them. :-(
@ retro....you nicked em? I'm shocked! ;) x x
I'll get my come uppance on the day of reckoning.Chained to the jubbly production line in Hades. They are in great demand there I understand. :-)
Remember, Baths, the old saying," It takes a thief.................................."
Lol Retro! So you've been away? I wonder if you missed the great thread about childhood games from years gone by? I'll see if I can hunt it out for you.... x x
