I know they have been going on TV for a long time - also that other programme called something "moving to Down Under" - who pays for all this. JjCon

I should imagine the TV company making the programme, who in turn will get money from sponsors and advertisers too.

There may be a more complicated answer.

I did have in my mind it would have been TV licence holders but then again not. I do think particularly in the Down Under programme - they pay for families to give it a go for a week in Australia and to my mind not one family ever go.

there is a notice at the end saying monetary grants come out of the producers' pockets

It's not licence payers, these are mostly on the commercial channels so the TV licence doesn't apply to them. If you look at the credits, lots of the programmes are sponsored (as as many on the ITV etc channels - they help with the costs). You can bet that DIY companies etc fall over themselves to give paint and wallpaper and furniture to be used in the makeovers - the credits at the end of the Peter André show today had a whole list of "thanks to" those sort of suppliers, it's all good PR for them.

In the greater scheme of things these programmes are very cheap TV, especially when the big DIY and furniture companies get involved.

As has been said the vast majority are on commercial channels and have nothing to do with the licence fee.

I wouldn't let them in my house personally.
