However good the brew is you're drinking it in a tent, hardly sheltered from the weather. It seems not very far from the street drinkers who spend a pound a tin on strong lager. A Christmas con, or what?

That does seem over the top. At the Christmas Market I went to it was £4 or £4.50 but that included a refundable £1 deposit for the glass

I haven't tried it myself. The taxi driver told me. And if the drinkers are feeling peckish they can get a hamburger for only £6.
Continental, or more oft 'German' markets are a homogenised dilution of the real thing and a complete rip off.

And of course you don't have to buy it!
the Christmas markets here do seem more like rip-off Britain than like their continental counterparts. As Stan Freberg said, "We wish you a merry Christmas, And please buy our beer!"

Lowenbrau @ £4.00 per pint at Frankfurt Xmas Market in Birmingham.
£6.50 a Pint is a total rip-off and I would not buy it
Pretty much everything is a con at these Xmas markets. Even my London friends would baulk at paying £6.50 a pint ! My local Wetherspoons sell really good quality beer for about £2.30, even less if you are a CAMRA member.

Get out of the cold and go into a proper Pub sandy...that is the answer !
German markets "homogenised", eh. thanks for the warning Zacs Master. if I go I shall stand with my back to the wall.
I have been to only three continental markets and each one I have come away with zilch because they are a total rip off, I bet they all laugh all the way back to the ferry. Excuse the pun but I think they have "priced themselves out of the market". Stand up for your rights Sandy and refuse to pay that price.
Sandy is that the Continental Markets in Belfast! I wanted to go but heard it was quite chaotic big queues and trains packed!

Caribeing, any time I pass the Belfast market it seems crowded. At the prices I mentioned the people crowding in must have more money than sense. I'd guess you wouldn't pay £6.50 for a pint in Merchants Hotel, among the poshest in Belfast.
