though you meant crocodile ! and yes I have croc that is.
Was coddle milk and bread mushed up together?
I remember a bacon and potato casserole being served up in Liverpool in the 60s

I think it had Irish origins
My OH's from Dublin so I make it quite a lot. Ours is pretty much suasage and bacon stew.
I had that all wrong then.
Sounds a bit like an Irish substitute for bacon roly poly - if you've never had it then count your lucky stars.
Not a roly poly Nanny, there's no pastry in it. Every ones recipe is different but mine is carrots, onion, potatoes, sausages and bacon joint in a pot with water. Heaven!
That brings back memories. I think it's an Irish thing. It was like a really thin stew with sausages, potatoes and veg. My nan used to make it for us when she was over from Ireland. Seem to remember I didn't really like it!
When we go to the Dub family they make it very thin, soup like, mine is a lot thicker. Both are lovely!
Never heard of it...
Coddle

n
(Cookery) Irish dialect stew made from ham and bacon scraps
[of obscure origin; perhaps related to caudle]
coddler n
I've never heard anyone outside of Dublin roots know what it is Ummmm, I'd never heard of it before I met the OH and none of my Irish family (Cork) or friends (West coast) had heard of it, yet anyone from Dub zooms in straight away.
Well one learns something new every day. I knew you could coddle eggs, never knew you could coddle bacon & ham !
Do you remember eating bread and milk, with sugar on?
boxtops, wasn't that called 'pobs'?
erm, not in our house!
yes we had bread and milk just before our daily tablespoon of codliver oil then malt ugh !!!
Was that called 'panada'?
Pobs here too. Always administered in our house if you were ill.
We kids called it 'slops'.
My mum used to talk about a bread, milk and sugar thing called pobs which she had as a child, I never had it though. And I've never heard of coddle, sounds tasty.
I still have bread and milk for breakfast sometimes, my daughter loves it, never heard it called pobs though.
