Just to let you know that the three eggs I bought (newlaid by the way - maybe only the of day before) on December 27th floated in a bowl of water but floated standing on end, indicating that they would have been about two weeks old. They were obviously double that age but were perfect when broken, the whites were firm (not watery as I have seen whites) and I had them scrambled a little while ago. Amazing. It proves that some supermarket eggs are either badly stored or very old as I have seen the whites very runny when broken.

Common sense is always a winner :)
Well, I hate people who say 'I told you' - but I told you! Ignore sell by dates, they are the work of the devil, and trust your own senses of sight, touch and smell xxx
Exactly ^^^^^^^^^
Most supermarkets put a 28 day code on them . This does not mean they were laid then stamped immiediately. So if you buy them at the sell by date they could be another seven days older than that. Instead buy from a small or farm shop.
