When I was a child my grandmother used to make a big jug of lemon tea when anyone had a cold. I'm not sure how she did it but involved slices of lemon and sugar in a big jug and hot water poured on it. She then left it to steep on the hearth by the fire.
I want to make some for my husband who has a terrible cough and cold but I'm not sure of the quantities and how long it will keep after it's made.
I thought I could make it without the sugar and then add honey to a cupful before warming in the microwave.
Does anyone know anything about old fashioned lemon tea?

Does no one know anything about old fashioned lemon tea?
Sorry, no. But I'd guess one used tea in with the lemon & sugar and let the hot water infuse the tea flavours.

Or, or course, one could buy those herbal tea bags now-a-days. Lemon tea, add sugar to taste.
I don't, but my favourite cold remedy is thus - for kids just leave out the Jamiesons like my dad used to do when he made it for us.

Cut a thick slice of lemon and put it in a mug. Pour over a spoonful of honey, and a slug of Jamiesons whiskey. Mash together and pour over boiling water and give the whole thing a good stir. Leave to cook slightly, drink as hot as you can stand it. I promise you, it's the best cure for a cold that I know, and it still works reasonably well without the whiskey xx

Thank you both for your answers. I have used three lemons in a two pint jug and it now seems to be thickening nicely. I will force him to drink a cup, sweetened with lemon before he goes to bed.
I do hope it works. He's driving me mad!
Twinings make a lemon and ginger teabag - that's lovely with a spoon of honey in it, very soothing. I usually boil lemonade add real lemon juice and some honey that works too.
Remember when I was younger, my Mother used to put 2/3 slices of lemon in a mug with spoonful of sugar, fill it with boiling water, squeeze the lemons with a spoon and tell me to drink it as hot as possible. Didn't half make me sweat the cold out in bed and tasted good too.
