Can anyone tell me how the above works if one doesn't have wi fi, but does have access to the computer? Is there a special lead to connect both?

Yes, you get a USB cable in the box to connect to your computer. When you buy the books from Amazon, just choose the "download to computer" option instead of wi-fi transfer, then you can plug in the cable and copy the file on.

Thank you very much for the information. I will now go ahead and buy one, unfortunately not for myself, but as a Christmas gift for another. I was terrified of buying the wrong thing.
