I know you can tell if your egg sinks or floats whether it is off or not. Can someone confirm to me is it sink or swim! Thanks

OK if it sinks
I work on the basis that unless it is black and/or mings it is perfectly OK.
Buy New!!!!
When they are not moving by themselves!
The sinking/floating thing will only tell you whether it is fresh or old. It won't tell you if it's off. Just crack it and see.

Older eggs are better for baking anyway.
All eggs should be banned!!!!! :oP
I find this joke 'eggstremely' hard to answer!
No Lisa_Louise. Some eggs should be beaten.
A very fresh egg will immediately sink to the bottom and lie flat on its side. This is because the air cell within the egg is very small. The egg should also feel quite heavy.

As the egg starts to lose its freshness and more air enters the egg, it will begin to float and stand upright. The smaller end will lie on the bottom of the bowl, whilst the broader end will point towards the surface. The egg will still be good enough to consume, however, if the egg fully floats in the water and does not touch the bottom of the bowl at all, it should be discarded, as it will most likely be bad.
You can't beat a hard boiled egg.
Didn't someone's OH give her a bearhug when her fleece pockets were full of eggs...........
Bugger off sibton......
A really bad egg can be smelled through the shell. In fact it can stink out your food cupboard without ever being broken.
I had some eggs last night which were long past their eat-by,
but no niff, so no problem.
So sniff it.
I work on the "Spin it" principle - if you try to spin it and it keeps on spinning then it's gone off. If it stops quite quickly then it's still fresh.
I was brought up to believe that if you put broad end of egg to mouth and it gets warm - tis ok to eat
if it swims and has feathers.... probably past it's best.
My sister has three chickens. She is also a midwife and put one of her co-workers off eggs completely when she explained that eggs were a chickens ovulation (period).
p.s... on a serious note, Barmaids comment of "just crack it and see." is the best way to tell.

Crack the egg into a dish first and look at it and smell it.
