Don't know but am getting increasing miffed about the headlines making it sound as though this was a random attack by a normal dog when it was a pit bull type owned by someone that the police were trying to arrest and it had been reported previously for being dangerous but no action was taken. No doubt all the dog haters will now be calling for all dogs to be destroyed when this should never have happened if the police had done their job in the first place.

Thank you lankeela.
I can understand how you feel if you have a dog yourself, its not fair is it.
I havent got a dog because I'm afraid of owning one then having to take it out for walk knowing it could be attacked by one of these pit bull types.
The thought scares me to death.
I hardly think it was the fault of the police. The blame lies solely with the owner of the dog.
Blimey pusskin, you must live in a rough area, lots of unemployed skinheads roaming about with Pitbulls no doubt?
Lankeela, that's not the way any of the reports I've seen have portrayed it at all. They've all made clear it was dangerous dog and have questioned why no action was taken after a previous attack. At no stage have I seen it being made out to be just a normal family dog.

I certainly don't see anybody saying, lets ged rid of dogs all together.
daffy, agreed, there's no such thing as a bad dog, though there are a lot of bad owners about.

No baldric, we live in quite a quietish area! no skinheads around here unless they come out at night, haha.
its just that when I hear of these attacks it makes me feel terrified and avoid any dogs that look vicious. I love dogs really but will never own one again as I really couldnt take it for walks.
lankeela has stated'it was a pit bull type owned by someone that the police were trying to arrest and it had been reported previously for being dangerous but no action was taken'i cant see where she stated it was a normal dog evianbaby
This is also being discussed on the News link
I believe a lot of them are nocturnal.
Shame you have come to feel that way, I respect your choice, if you wouldn't be comfortable don't do it.

thanks maggiebee, will pop into AOG post now on news!
Have just spotted what I have been looking for x thanks everyone
SlinkyKate - try reading it again.

From Lankeelas post - "Don't know but am getting increasing miffed about the headlines making it sound as though this was a random attack by a normal dog "
In fact, it's my post you read wrong. Read them both again.
Its the headlines that I object to - what you would expect of the red tops but when it appears on more serious news reports it makes me cross because it doesn't make it clear that they were going to arrest the man for the real reasons, rather that they have since arrested him because of the dog attack, if you see what I mean.
One report even had a headline that was something like 'police dog attack man arrested' making it sound like it was a police dog that attacked someone! I suppose I have answered my own point there, it makes people go and read the story!
In all the reports I have read and seen it has been made very clear that the police were at the man's house to arrest him for a crime unrelated to the dog attack.
I have a copy of the Sun in front of me. (very high brow I know).

At the top in big red letters "5 cops savaged by mad pitbull".

Now, I don't really know anything about dogs but this headline suggest to me dangerous dog. Not cute little pooch.

I would think it's a good thing the headline makes people read the story, they'll see the full, important facts then.
I'm sure a few of you know I have two Doberman, both large butch looking dogs, who have been so well socialised they are very laid-back, they would (have) protected me and mine when called for, but are generally so relaxed they're in danger of falling over. Yet I'm still asked on a regular basis when out walking them "Why do I want such dangerous dogs?", this is always by strangers whom I've never met before and have no reason whatsoever to say my Dogs are dangerous other than their appearance.
You can't judge a dog by its breed(s)
All animals have the POTENTIAL to be dangerous!
