I rarely have lunch at home but having had little to eat yesterday am a bit peckish today.

Lunch was going to be welsh rarebit until I got to the fridge and found we've run out of whole grain mustard and then went to the cupboard and found an empty Worcester sauce bottle. Thankfully the Cheddar I'm using up is a smoked one so added some va va voom to my lunch.

What is your favourite lunchtime nibble?

Made some leftover soup yesterday - that well known favourite also known as "What The Funicular is left in the fridge" - mainly leek and potato as it happened. There was a bit too much for me so ...

... today's lunch was also soup - made from leftover leftover soup from yesterday, plus a load of chopped salami, some new potatoes and some chillis.

Once again there is some left, so I expect tomorrow will feature leftover leftover leftover soup ...
You could try adding anchovys, capers , passatta
See, I reheat and reheat and reheat as well; supposedly not a good idea I know but it's never done me any harm. (keels over, famous last words)
oops sorry, to answer your question, Ecclescake, my fave lunchtime nibble would have to be jackpot with cheese & beans.
What a good idea owdhamer - just had a look in the store cupboard and have anchovies & passata ... I'll report back tomorrow afternoon :)

Ooops - sorry for the hi-jack eccles - but cheese on toast with a spot of brown sauce is definitely up there in the lunchtime top 10
Mmmm yeah toast n cheese!
Beans n toast
Toasties
Bacon sandwich n brown sauce
Sausage n tattie scone sandwich mmmm brown sauce x
< smiles at tink >

I do like a woman who loves her brown sauce ... :+)
I've always wondered, why does it have to be Welsh? Why not Irish?
Hehehe i CANNOT eat a potato without brown sauce- same
With bacon or sausage etc...mmmmmm

Well when I hit the supermarket to pick up mustard and Worcester sauce I might just pick up some brown sauce and experiment with a cheese on toast extravaganza!

Suechu - you don't nuke you potato in the microwave do you? The crispy skin is the best bit!
Try this HP variation (in most supermarkets at the moment) - I thought it would be a gimmick, but it's actually very good indeed ...

Nice tip Dave but when I buy brown sauce I tend to favour Tiptree.
i dont eat dinner (lunch to poshies) often but if i do i like either soup and bread (homemade) or yoghurt and bread (not homemade lol)

so what did you end up having eccles? its unclear, did you still have cheese on toast without the mustard and sauce or summat else?
Fish finger butties..............
Question Author
Food of the gods a fish finger buttie - and one of the rare occasions that will entertain ketchup on my plate. I can't believe how many cafes and pubs have got them on the menu at the moment!

I just had bog standard cheese on toast using the smoked cheddar, it was yummy but could be so much better turned into a rarebit.
mmm - shame I've had my tea - I could have murdered an FFB ...

For a cross-cultural fusion food experience try fish fingers in pitta bread with thai chilli sauce ... food of the gods indeed :=)
Current lunch favourite is toasted bagel with Philadelphia.

You can do a buck rarebit if you put a poached egg on it (I am gagging at the thought of that) and apparently, if you mix sun-dried tomatoes in with the cheese it is called a lusting bunny.
Blushing ^ not lusting!
Question Author
I had a major fancy for toasted cinnamon & raisin bagels with Philadelphia last week. I bought a packet and they did not last very long at all.

I think I prefer lusting bunny to a blushing bunny! Definitely a contender fo typo of the month award.
i want an ffb now
