Do you think that it would be a good idea to rename Leeds / Bradford Air port? The Sir Jimmy Savile International Airport as a mark of respect to a truly great man.

Not really to be honest. International airports tend to be named after people who are known internationally. I doubt anyone would know who he is outside of the UK.
Bit of a mouthful innit? How about 'Now then, now then now then Airport.', slightly funkier!
a truly great man ? for what ?

he could only 'fix' things that were really easy like being a majorette or playing a recorder in an orchestra. ask him to make you a pilot for a week or an astronaut and he was rubbish.
Is Robin Hood well known abroad?
yes. even in hollywood.
As much as he was respected I think its a bit stupid to call an airport after him - but I suppose others are named after people like John Lennon in Liverpool and Charles De Gaulle in France.
really???
Noooo, and does he have a Nottinghamshire accent too?
actually Anne...........I agree :-)
What about re-naming hallowe'en for him? "'ow's about that then guisin' gals"
he would have been 85 today Douglass

I agree with 237SJ - it is international appeal and status that merits an airport naming.

That said, they could consider renaming Stoke Mandeville Hospital after the wonderful Sir Jimmy, who did so much unsung work for it during his lifetime.
No.
Something closer to his heart ought to take his name.
that would be a lovely and fitting tribute to the man Andy
I agree with 237sj
Yes a great idea. Why not? 40 million pounds raised for charity.
I love George Best and John Lennon dearly but if they can have airports named after them.
I recall going to Roundhay a few years ago for the cross country champs and there was Jimmy, in the midst of all these athletes, jogging along the side of the park, grinning and waving to wellwishers resplendent in dazzling red tracksuit and gold jewellery (I don't THINK he had a cigar but I can't remember)
Maybe a unit within the hospital I remember; once, he talked about his plans for a childrens spinal injuries hospital that would look like a disney castle and have trollies that were like merry go round rides etc be nice if it happened
No one has obviously told the Americans about not naming their international airports after internationally known people. I think most people would only know New York mayor La Guardia, for example, because of the airport.
