This is going to sound like a bit of a dumb question but I'm good at those.

When my brother in law puts the lid back on a plastic fizzy drinks bottle, the bottle goes solid and it doesn't lose it's fizz as quick.

When I do it the bottle is squidgy.

What am I doing wrong?

Is that it? It hurts my hands :(
you can buy fizz savers. Special tops that keep is as new.
Yep put the top back and tighten it straight away. Nothing worse than flat evian baby. Bet I could beat you for dumb questions. lol
there are a few people today who could beat you for stupid questions!

Theirs were far more interesting though.

Right, well I do feel pretty stupid for asking that now. Must make more effort to tighten the lid.
...and, if you have room, store in the fridge. The colder it is, the more carbon dioxide it retains in solution - so the fizzier it stays.
you are maybe squeezing the bottle too. keep it as its shaped
