pikelet [ pklət ] (plural pikelets)

noun

1. thin yeast cake: a soft flat yeast cake, traditionally made in northern England. It is similar to a crumpet but thinner and is usually eaten buttered.

2. Australia, New Zealand small pancake: a small thick pancake made of batter

[Late 18th century. From Welsh pyglyd  “pitchy,” in the phrase bara pyglyd  “pitchy bread,” perhaps because of its dark color.]

It looks like a pikelet is just thinner !

Where I come from, pikelets usually have currants in them as well which crumpets don't
I've been slowly moving west then south over the last 30+ years and the only difference as far as I can make out is where you buy them.
Pikelets have holes in them crumpets don't?
Around here (Essex), pikelets are about half as thick as crumpets, but otherwise look and taste the same.
pikelets are made from the same mix as crumpets but are usually irregularly shaped, larger in diameter and about a third of the thickness of crumpets.
gef, pikelets and crumpets hav holes in. are you thick, or just generally stupid?
