Hiya, earlier I bought a watermelon from the market and put it on the floor when I got home and noticed it rocking slightly which was strange as the house was quiet and no sign of any music or large vehicles or anything and the floor is level as I checked with my boyfriends spirit level to check I wasn't going mad! so I pushed it with the mop to inspect the outside to make sure a family of wasps, rats or voles haven't somehow got in but there are no marks whatsoever on the outside. I picked it up and immediately dropped it into the laundry basket as there was definitely an angry humming and rattling noise coming from inside the watermelon. I've now taken it out to the far side of the garden in fear in case something breaks out of it. My friend is coming over and wants to put a video camera on it, chop it with an axe and run but I'm not so sure as if there are creatures inside from other lands and we let them loose on the countryside who knows what kind of ecological mess we could cause so my question is what to do? Call the police, zooologists? What would you do?

EWWWWWW! I just read pixi's post properly, how would they get in and then make the melon appear unpenatrated? Surely they're not that clever that they can gnaw a window on a melon and then pull it shut behind them?lol.

Do let us know whatever you decide to do with your water melon.I think we are all intrigued as to what you may or may not find.

The plot thickens as a cat in the garden has definitely shown interest in the melon as is quitely stalking it through the long grass, there has to be some form of small mammal or mammals inside, do those creatures make a humming rattling sound pixi or maybe the walls of the watermelon distorted squeaking into another sound like a speaker???

I'm not sure they'll wait till 5, not if they've worked themsleves into a frenzy. they might just burst out like Alien.
I have just googled 'vibrating water melon' and it says it means that it is ripe and ready to eat.

LOOOOOL! DONT SAY THAT rattyratgirl, that bit was soooo scary! Mumsywumsy that's just your ploy to get me to open it and tell you what was in it! No no no, you'll have to wait until 5 unless my friend has the guts to open it herself which she wont. I'll call the zoo or rspca only if any insects or animals emerge redcrx.
Marrow and Squash are favourites to though if we can't get melon
