Tonight we are having a few people round so I'm doing Chicken tikka, and some onion bhajis to start, served with a lemony mint and yoghurt sauce, and salad garnish, then a lamb bhuna, a beef Madras, and a chicken and prawn dopiaza, dhal, bombay potatoes, pilau rice, naan breads, chutney/pickles and poppadums. Lassi/sherbet or Indian lager to drink. Tropical fruit salad and mango kulfi for pud.

I'll swap my OH for next door's microlight. Sounds like a fair deal for me.

I am currently loving my latest recipe book "Gordon Ramsey's Best Menus". Chicken tikka masala is quite good from that. His malaysian chicken curry is also delic!

Mercia - it must be really nice having your brothers being so good to you with their farms and their fishing, but do you ever consider the carbon footprint? I am getting more and more conscious of the cost on the environment of how our food gets to us and try to source local ingredients (or if I am out on a job at, say, Lowestoft, I call in at the fish mongers). Is that a valid concern do you think? Perhaps that is a thread I should start.
My neighbours are sound (except for her big gob)
which she knows you have mentioned ummmm
i quite like the thai meal for two ones you get in morrissons, saves all the faff of cooking and having your relatives bombard the house/drive for miles.
I know....feel a bit bad about that. True though....she wakes us up in the morning!! and she smokes weed...
Ankou...have you tried cooking your own?
i have umm
mm

(posted too early)
Do they compare?
compare to what ?

chicken tikka, onion bhajis, lemony mint, yoghurt sauce, salad garnish, lamb bhuna, beef Madras, chicken and prawn dopiaza, dhal, bombay potatoes, pilau rice, naan breads, chutney/pickles, poppadums, lassi/sherbet or Indian lager, tropical fruit salad and mango kulfi ?

...probably not.
Rogan Josh, lamb or king prawn. Don't make it myself.....M & S do very nice curries. :o)

I used to make my own Bombay Potatoes. I used to cheat a bit with a packet of mixed spices, might have been Colman's but I've not seen the packets around for a long time.

Glad to hear you're on the mend, Mercia. Wish I had you as a neighbour.....mine fell out with me when I had my extension built and now she won't speak to me at all. How daft is that!
i once tried a pelican curry-it was ok,but the bill was enormous?
Lol@kate!
Ankou - lol...I meant in the real world though :-)
ummmm, i have and do cook quite alot and i particularly like my homemade curries as i can make it as spicy or not as i like. i do like to keep it simple though, we aint big eaters, hence the supermarket takeaway thingymajiggybobs are often enough food for me and mrs kou, and taste great on a friday night after a hard week. and all the growing, rearing, harvesting and butchery are all done for you without any bartering from me at all.
My favs are all in my Madhur Jaffrey cookbooks.....Chettinad Pepper Chicken, and Chicken in Fresh Green Coriander.....much better than restaurant stuff.
Persian chicken biryani, complete with a baked banana on the top.
