roast beef in slow cooker

anyone done it and how did it turn out?

i'm thinking brown the meat first and chop some veg put in the bottom and sit the meat on top
not sure about liquid and for how long?

there are so many diff recipes online and all say something different, im so confused!

brown it
roll in seasoned flour
cook in the gravy
then roast out of the gravy for last 15 mins.

By definition, if you slow ccok it doesn't that mean it isn't roasted ? Not that I'm an expert but aren't those slow cooker thing for stews/casseroles/etc. ?
Didn't brown it when I've done it, just threw a few veg in the bottom, a little stock in the bottom (add a little wine too if you want) and stick it on for about 8 hours.
Just put a nice piece of brisket in a slow cooker with some stock made from those stock pots and leave it on low all day.

i;ve only ever done stews/casseroles so far, but i've heard people say you can do it this way and i was thinking about giving it a go

cheers chuck and david will give it a go this weekend i think, wine is a must but do i have to put it in the slow cooker ;-p
It's lovely. Brown all the edges first in a frying pan. Put it in slow cooker, cover it with beef stock with a glass of red wine and plenty of black pepper. Chuck in a roughly chopped onion and some bay leaves. Time to cook it for rather depends on the size of the joint.Take it out to rest 20-30 mins before you plan to eat. Strain the stock and thicken to make the gravy. It'll be the tenderest beefy beef you've ever had.

that sounds nice, but i like it rare, so how on earth am i going to judge that, or do i give up on that idea?
By definition it can't be roast beef. Slow cooking a beef joint will result in delicious and tender meat but it ain't roasted.

lol i like it, but if you call it boiled beef i can't eat it as it sounds horrid, so its roast wether you like it or not

What cut of beef do you have in mind fluff?

Make sure its rolled & tied brisket for slow cooking. Brown to seal joint, insert water to cover half joint, add root veg/whole onions/oxo & cook slow for 4-6hrs.

i'm not sure mcmouse its the M&S one they are advertising for mothers day it was such a good deal i couldn;t resist, however i will be eating beef for a week :-)
