Stand it in a washbasin full of cold water. If you have any ice cubes, chuck them in as well. Do this about at least half an hour before it's needed, or put it in the freezer (but no longer than half an hour, any longer is a bit risky).
Put it in the freezer for an hour.
^^as above^^
............or 45 minutes!

I did not think you could use the freezer
Ill split the difference and try 45 mins

Cheers
DO NOT FORGET IT IS IN THE FREEZER !!!

I have created very expensive ice lollies in my time :+(

I wondered if it gets "icy" will it lose the alcohol?
No - but if it starts to freeze to any serious degree the taste will go - and eventually the bottle might crack too (or the cork explode out).

45 minutes is about right I think.
Mr Tilly once forgot about two cans of lager that he had put in the freezer. The cans didn't explode but they did crack. You could have killed somebody with them.
My OH has a couple of these, he's very pleased with them.

(Hope I've done the link right, I'm not too clued up with computing).

Well I took it out about 7.15 and it's been in the fridge ever since
I had to google it to see what it was! Sounds nice. Can i come round when you open it please? I will bring my own glass!
30 minutes in a nice bucket or similar container packed with ice. As the ice melts it chills the bottle.
Ice bucket
Or even a nice, ice bucket :-)
Exactly Tilly

It was lovely
Still got some left for tonight
I recently bought some ice cube trays with extra large cubes so I might try them with a G&T tonight
For the future, get yourself a bottle-cooling gel sleeve. Stick it in the freezer, and when you're ready to cool a bottle of wine, slip the sleeve over it. Because it's in contact with the bottle, it will cool the wine in minutes - much more quickly than if the bottle's simply placed in the freezer.
Can I recommend one of these ?

I keep a couple in my freezer and they work in about 10 mins. I'm sure that there are cheaper ones around. I have had mine for many years and take them to the caravan with me.
